Abstract of Record George Purnell, free colored, 8 yo on 22 Oct 1841 and son of Ailsey Purnell, a free woman of colour, apprenticed to John H. Leonard. Ailsey was sold by virtue of an order of Court issued on 24 September 1841 in pursuance of said act unto John H. Leonard & his assigns within the state of Maryland, not to be removed out of Maryland. To learn trade of farmer. In addition, Mary Leonard, widow of John H. Leonard to whom indenture of George Purnell was bound as an apprentice to serve until 22 October 1854, in consideration of sum of $100 & with consent of Court has transfered to Wm M. Ruark the residue of his time. 14 May 1849
