Somerset County Bonds 1827-1850 are contained in the Probate records under the Register of Wills (Somerset, Maryland). Entries pertaining to people noted as "negroes" were extracted from Bond Books JP8, JP13, SWJ9, and SWJ3 and included in this database. They consist mainly of Apprenticeships and Distributions of Negroes (estates of slaveholders divided among heirs). Most apprenticeships note birthdates and some relationships that will be helpful in tracking these individuals in later records. Original records can be found on FamilySearch under Maryland Register of Wills records, 1639-1999 - Somerset Bonds, 1827-1842 and 1842-1850.
