Message Abstract The colored population of Queen Anne Co. Md. desire to have established regular Schools and desire to know what amount the Genl. Government will furnish each School and on what conditions. - Encloses "Slips" from the Maryland Citizen. Respectfully referred to [[/preprinted]] Maj. [[underlined]] W L Van Derlip, [[/underlined]] with instructions to answer the letter and do what is possible for school interests in that section of the country. [[preprinted]] By order of Bvt. Maj. - Gen. O. O. Howard, Com'r:
Message Body Having been employed by the colored people of said county as their Attorney to collect the amt of taxes paid by them for educational purposes since the year 1865, but has been misapplied by school commissioners of said County also to have their schools regularly established under the law. And as they have been informed that the General Government will give them aid therefore they have requested me to write to you and ascertain what amt you will furnish each school, and on what conditions.
