Message Abstract	Received letter of the 30th inst. Encloses report for November. States that the people have compromised and have decided to hold their school in the church and not build school house; that herself or husband [[underlined]] C.S. Groce [[/underlined]] should be addressed for any information respecting freedmen in that district. Recd. blanks and register.
Message Body	Your letter of the 30th was received last night. [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] I enclose to you a report from the 20th November to the First of December. The division or difference that has existed between the people has I think been compromised and they now intend to hold their school in the church and not build a school house, and to use the money collected to pay the expenses of the school as they are not able the present season to pay any large amount of money. There are no persons ins this section who can or at least do attempt to urge the education of the race except Mr Groce and myself, as we are both from Massachusetts and he has been in the army and also taught this school before. I think I shall have a good report at the end of the month The blanks and Register have been received. I had been using the Register formerly used by Mr Groce [...] any information you wish regarding Freedmen or other matters please address me as C. S. Groce

Message Abstract States that the school at this place was opened on the 20th of October; that the people have raised upwards of $75 to purchase lot for school house, and hope to obtain material from the Bureau as promised by [[underlined]] J. H. Butler [[/underlined]], but have not agreed as to location. Encloses school report for October.

Message Body This school was opened on the 20th of October and is to be sustained by the voluntary contributions of the people of color of the vicinity as per agreement made with John H. Butler, Who was here on the 19th of Oct. There has been a division among the people as to the building of a school house, one party wishing to place it in the church yard. nearly a mile from the depot, the other party wishing it placed nearer to the village. Upwards of Seventy Five dollars having been collected to purchase the ground and obtain if possible the material from you to build it with. Mr Butler having told that we could obtain it provided we secured by deed the ground, Mr Groce formerly teacher here has copies of the deed and is stirring to carry out that object. This has kept many from attending school but I hope to make a fuller and more extended report next month.
There is a vast amount of ignorance and [[strikethrough]] Supper [/strikethrough]] Superstition among the Freedmen here. And it is to be hoped that some person friendly to the Education of the Freedmen visit this place as the people do not take to it as readily as we would wish though they seem now desirous to support their School to the extent of their means. This section is by no means progressive with regard to Improvements or Agriculture being conservative to a superlative degree.

Message Abstract Encloses her school report for Dec. States that the freedmen have failed to pay her salary of $20, per month as per agreement and she must close her school: States that they have procured lumber for school-house to be erected on grant of land and to be about 14 ft square, while they have one hundred children in the neighborhood who should attend school.

Message Body The enclosed report is respectfully submitted with the regret of the teacher that the Freedmen have not paid their subscription of $20.00 per month to carry on the School and the additional fact that no interest has been taken to raise the Funds Therefore this School must of necessity be closed. School teaching in this vicinity will not be supported by the Freedmen as Mr Groce has taught two School in this county for nearly two years with like success. They have procured timber for a School house to be raised on granted land to be about Fourteen feet square while there is a population sufficiently large to educate at least one Hundred Scholars The amount due me from the school to the close of the month is $24.00 per their agreement made with John H. Butler of which fact you will please acquaint him. Any other information you may require please write to me as C. S. Groce
