| Message Abstract | States that from conversation he had with the Supt. of Education he was induced to promise the colored people of Federalsburg that if they would purchase land for school purposes the Bureau would furnish lumber for school-house: that they have purchased two acres, which is deeded to school trustees, and are much disapointed in not receiving the lumber &c. |
| Message Body | Last November, with a conversation I had with the Rev'd. J. Kimble, and with the Board who has control of the Colored School I now held in Baltimore, I took an Intrest for the Colored people in this our town, and procured Two acres of Land, which was deeded to Trustees for the Education of Colored Children, with the understanding if the land could be had for this purpose, lumber would be furnished for the building of the House. I have written several times in regard to this lumber, have had no answer. I feel very much dissatisfied that I took any part in this matter, as I am blamed by the colored people for disappointing them. They dispenced with their school through the winter to build their house as several of them were workmen, as they thought the building the house, & carrying on the school was more than they could do at the same time. This deed which I sent the Revd Kimble if it is not reccorded within six months, they will loose the land, as the law require deeds to be reccorded with the time named. I hope something will be done immediately to relieve me from my embarassed situation. Will you let me know something in regard to it. |
