Joined Whatcoat Methodist Episcopal Church, Dover, Del. After elementary studies, he attending "The Institute for Colored Youth" in Philadelphia, Pa. while maintaining domestic obligations to family; graduated 1889. Became teacher & later started preaching & ordained in 1905 at Whatcoat. Joined Delaware Conference at Zoar M.E. Church in Philadelphia. Charges: St. Mary, Burlington, N.J.; Fordsville, N.J.; Buttonwood and Christiana, Del. Worked for firm of D. F. McCallister & Co. 30 yrs & 40 years with Delaware Conference.
Family and Other Information Parents: James H. & Sarah Blackison Spouse: Bertha Elizabeth Spencer, public school teacher of Wilmington, Del. married 6/15/1893 - 7 children; Ralph & Lillian deceased. Survived by: Myrtle, Harry, Bertrand, Adrian & Calvin, 5 grandchildren, brother William, 2 nieces.
