| Abstract | To son Thomas J. Rayfield to pay my estate $800 & to him my slaves for the terms mentioned: Simon Sr, 7 yrs after my death; Violet, 4 yrs; Abraham, Isaac, Jacob & Simon Jr until they arrive at age 30 then to be free provided they wish to be free & also all increase of Viiolet born during her term of service until they reach 30 yo & so with the increase as aforesaid. My intent is that all increase of several descendants of slave Violet born before the actual freedom of their respective ancestors shall have accrued shall be property of my son Thomas J until they attain 30 yo & then be free, if they desire. To my graandchildren (several named): my femal slave Louisa for 10 yr term after my death and then Sarah Jr for term of 15 yrs 7 they then to be free, provided they wish to be, along with their increase subject to same terms as Violet. To son Major Rayfield my Negro man Southey for term of 10 yrs & my girl Leah term of 15 yrs along with increase subject to same terms as Violet. To daughter Susan Dix, wife of Willaim H. Dix, my Negro woman Sarah Sr. for 8 yrs, her child Henry until he is 30 yo & Negro man Stephen for 2 yrs after my death & the increase of Sarah Sr. subject to same terms as Violet. Negro man George to be free after my death & my son Thomas J. Rayfield to see that he has sufficient support in his old age & to treat him with kindness. The slaves named not to be sold for their respective terms of service beyond the limits of this county. |
