Abstract Negro Man James… I do hereby pronounce to be free immediately after my death, provided it shall appear that James has fully paid me the money I paid for him & if not I leave James to my wife until he pays the balance to my wife. … My Negro woman Risa shall serve my wife such a length of time tha as will pay her $150 with interest from 1 Jan 1829 deducting there annually $18 for Risa's services. My children shall have the services of Moses, Nancy & Leah until said slaves are each 21 of age & then I direct Moses to serve until he shall have paid $150 to my wife & children with interest commencing the day Moses shall be 21 years of age deducting there out whatever Moses shall hire for annually at public auction. Nancy and Leah shall also serve in the same manner, except $100 is to be paid. Suke to my wife to do as she chooses as she originally belonged to her. After the above are paid I hereby free Risa, Nancy, Moses & Leah. However, should the females have issue born after my death or during their servitude, such Negro children shall be 21 of age then they are to be free provided they are dutiful and obediant.
