Abstract I set free from slavery my Negro man Luke on Jan 1 after my decrease. To son George J. Dix my slaves Rious, Leah, Mary & Ephelia. To son Asa T Dix my slaves Littleton, Patince, Enos, Tamer, Emeline of Esther) & Gatty. To my daughter Rosa Northan mu slave Fanny. To my grandson Levi J. Nrtham my slave Peter. To my granddaughter Sally Northan my slave Henry. To my sons George J. and Asa T. Dix and my daughter Rosa G. Northam my Negro woman Esther & in consideration of the faithful services of Esther, I most earnestly request that they permit her to live with her husband undisturbed & without requiring any service from her & that they may be kind & indulgent to her. Should either of my grandchildren Levin J., Sally or Gerge J. Northan die under age 21 without issue, then their slaves are to go to the survivors. Codicil 24 Dec 1847 - My slaves Rious, Leah & Gratty to be free the Christmas after my death. to my grandson George H. Dix son of Asa T. Dix , my little Negro boy Erastus. Codicil 13 Jan 1848 - My slaves Rious, Leah & Gatty, instead of being free the Christmas after my death shall be free five years after my death & in the meantime they shall serve and be the slaves to those to whom I have given them in my will, but if my son George returns home than Rious & Leah are not to be free at all, but to be his slaves forever.
