Source Information

Bible Records of Accomack and Northampton Counties, Virginia

Family Bibles • 102 Records • Uploaded July 2, 2024

This source contains the births, deaths, marriages, and other familial records of both enslaved and free Black families in Northampton County and (additionally) Accomack County. The majority of the family bibles are from the time period of the 19th century, but range from the late 18th century to the early 20th century.

These records have been abstracted from volumes 1-22 of Bible Records of Accomack/Northampton Cty. Virginia (F232.N85.B53) compiled by Jean M. Mihalyka.

The information from those volumes includes many materials in addition to bible records, such as newspaper articles, county legislative petitions, ledgers, obituaries, additional genealogical information and loose papers.

These selected records were compiled by Donna Messick. The sources of the original compiled volumes can be found at the Eastern Shore Public Library (ES 929.3 v1 – v23) and titled Northampton County Bible Records.
