Abstract Petition of Madison F. Tull, free Negro, states that your Petitioner is contrary to law held & detained in servitude by Matthew Purnell as an apprentice. To the end therefore that Petitioner may be released and discharged from said servitutde and apprenticeship. "May it please your Honors to grant to Petitioner the state's writ of subpoena against Matthew Purnell commanding him to appear in Court & show cause why Petitioner should not be released & discharged from servitude."
