Was committed to the jail of Talbot County in the state of Maryland, on the 31st day of January last, by Henry Thomas, Esq. a Justice of the Peace in and for the County and State aforesaid, as a runaway, a negro man by the name of 'Reuben Lowd' of dark complexion, aged about twenty-one years, five feet five inches high -- has two scars on his right cheek, and one scar on the inside of his left arm, between his wrist and elbow...Reuben says he was free born but bound an apprentice to a certain Mr. Jos. Wright of Dorchester County, that since the decease of Mr. Wright he has lived with a certain Mr. Robert Bell of said county near Upper Hunting Creek until sometime in December last past.'
