Church Service, Charges Served, Affiliated Locations, and Other Biographical Information Born a slave, she was tutored by her young mistgress & learned to read as a girl. Family who owned her were Episcopal & she was confirmed in that church. The first Sunday School in Oriole, Md of which St. James is the outgrowth was started in her home.
Family and Other Information Parents: Hampton & Gertrude E. Turner Spouse: Charles Elsey Johnson (deceased) md 3/21/1851 - ten children, 3 predeceased her. Surviving: Rev. F. T. Johnson of Delaware Conference, Joseph E. Johnson, Charles J. Johnson, Rev. H.T. also of Delaware Conference, William A. Johnson, Mrs. Esther G. King & C. Lee Johnson; 7 children, 21 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren & 8 great-great grandchildren.
