Abstract "Whereas James Smith of Kent co., MD on 8 Jan 1840 by Bill of Sale conveyed to William Turner of Caroline Co. for 3 negro slaves, executed in favor of a debt then owing by Smith to Turner, which hath been fully paid to William Turner in his lifetime - I, Thomas A. Turner, surviving executor of William Turner, dec'd, for the cons. of $1 paid by James Smith of Kent Co., Md, release the 3 negro slaves named in the Bill of Sale: negro boy Levin, negro boy Benjamin and negro boy William.
